Evaluating Your Research Training Course or Program
This is a day-long interactive workshop offered in person at UW–Madison, focused on developing evaluation plans for research training courses or programs.
Research mentee and mentor training, based on the books Entering Research and Entering Mentoring, has been tested and shown to be effective in increasing mentee and mentor knowledge and skills and in developing their ability to engage in productive mentor-mentee relationships.
In addition, the curricula promote culturally responsive interactions between mentors and mentees, which can help historically underrepresented mentees progress successfully in their research careers and become effective mentors, scientific leaders, and research team members.
Objective
This workshop’s goal is to help participants build their knowledge and skills to revise or develop an evaluation plan for their research mentee training or their research mentor training implementations.
Themes and Concepts
- Become familiar with the different types of evaluation, evaluation plans and frameworks.
- Identify, articulate, and prioritize their evaluation goals.
- Identify reporting needs.
- Develop evaluation questions.
- Align data sources with evaluation questions.
- Consider analysis and reporting options.
- Learn about potential evaluation challenges and articulate strategies to mitigate those challenges.
Participant Requirements
- Current and former participants in the Entering Mentoring Facilitator Training or Entering Research Facilitator Training and Curriculum Development Institute.
- Interested in developing evaluation plans for research training courses or programs or working with an evaluator.
