Comparing the Mentor Training Outcomes Through Two Platforms Using Propensity Score Matching Methods

This study uses a propensity score matching method to examine the difference in research mentor training outcomes by different platforms – whether the mentor was trained in person or online.

With a sample of 172 mentors who were trained in a synchronous online platform and 655 mentors who were trained in person, results indicate that whether a mentor was trained online or in-person does not make a difference in any of the training outcomes. Factors that are associated with the training outcomes include hours of training, facilitator effectiveness, race, and previous mentoring experience.
